A look at Kanye's best G.o.o.d. Friday's songs

Image
Look, it's time to face some facts, you're going to be reading a lot about Kanye West on this blog. Anyone who knew me knew he was my favorite rapper in high school. While I can't vouch for the crazy shit he's been up to lately, a few years ago he was making the best rap music out. Take his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy days. As a lead up to the album, he released about 14 songs to build hype for it. To top it off, each song had some crazy features or beat that made me listen to every song at least 30 times a day. So I decided I would rank some of my favorite songs from the series. Not every song will be on this list so here's a link to a youtube playlist with all of them in it. Anyway, here's my favorite songs from G.o.o.d. Fridays: Good Friday This was my go-to celebration song, good vibe song, driving song back in the day. I literally could not be angry or sad when this track came on. It was just a spirit booster through and through a

The Track: Good Friday Ft. Kid Cudi, Common, Pusha T, Big Sean, Charlie Wilson The Artist: Kanye West It's Good Friday ya'll, that means we're only playing Kanye West's earth-shattering G.O.O.D. Friday songs. My personal favorite is Good Friday I love boom-bap music and all of these artists were in their prime (save for Pusha who is arguably one of the best out now) when this song was released. Vibe out to this bop and get your Good Friday off to the right start. Signed, Unemployed Santa P.S.: any of yall know where I can download this project?

The Track: FCK Boy! The Artist Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire I don't think there is an accurate enough word to describe this song. Funny? Weird? Hard? All sum it up perfectly, besides there's only two rappers I think that can match ODB's energy and eXquire is one of them. This song will kick you in the gut and get you going for Wednesday for sure, enjoy. Signed, Young Kenny Rogers

The Track Shiny Suit Theory The Artist  Jay Electronica There's just something about the rhythm of this song that hasn't left my head since Jay released his album. Of course, technically this song is 9 years old but I think that speaks to the timelessness of the artist and what he does. (Jay if you're reading this please don't wait another 10 years to release a new album, I can't wait that long again.) Signed, Sasquatch's younger brother

How to record a rap album with next to no money

Image
Photo courtesy of Seej Nguyen Firstly, let's get this out of the way: You broke ass fuck. Got big dreams of rap stardom but you're trying to get around spending money on a studio? For shame. For shame. However, take it from a guy who was too cheap to pay money to make his blog, It's okay! Seriously, we've all been there especially when we were starting out in the game and didn't have a buck to spare. Not to mention lo-fi rap has really seen a boom with the likes of Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE gaining critical praise for their latest albums. So today, I'm going to show you how to MacGyver the shit out of your own studio using a few household items and some clever tricks. Your budget may vary, but you can almost certainly do all of these tricks on a budget of $0. So here we go: Microphone:  So right off the bat, you're going to need a microphone and the easiest way to get one is to go to your basement, sneak into your little sister or br

Other things Tekashi69 can snitch on now that he's free

Image
Last week, rapper and infamous snitch Tekashi69 was released from an undisclosed prison in Queens, NYC where he was serving 2 years for racketeering. The early release was a result of the coronavirus outbreak that has spiked in recent days and the rapper's asthma - which puts him at risk if he caught it. I'm happy he's been released because asthma, even the milder of cases, is nothing to scoff at, especially during a pandemic. People who have suffered through the virus have literally described it as drowning on dry ground. That being said. He still snitched on his entire gang and as the famous saying goes - once a snitch always a snitch. (I can't believe a white dude from the suburbs knows this rule and Kashi doesn't.) Since a title like that will literally never go away and rap is an extremely tough industry especially on said snitches, Kashi's only hope is becoming a professional snitch. Think about - it's the gangster rap version of

The Track: Flowers on the Weekend The Artist: Asher Roth Are you feeling drained or dead exhausted because of the lockdown and its extension? I know a lot of us could use something soothing to start the day off. This brand new track from Asher Roth (one of the first rappers I've fallen in love with) will bring your spirits up.

Bops and flops, March edition

Image
With the first week of this blog's existence out of the way and March slowly fading over the hills behind us. My girlfriend thought it'd be a good idea to go over what I loved and hated about March so without further adieu. Bop: Barstool Blogger Rone battle rap battling his dishwasher This video is absolutely silly from start to finish. My favorite part is the reaction shots from all the other appliances witnessing an absolute massacre unfold. Not to mention Rone's verses come correct and ruin his dishwasher's entire rap career point blanc. (still figuring out how to work embedding) Day 18 of quarantine: had a rap battle with the dish washer pic.twitter.com/hdgP2o9Lyp — rone’s gamblin corner (@_rone) March 31, 2020 Flop: The entire month of March -  Does anyone even know what day it is anymore? It all happened so quickly, one day I was making plans with my friends to go get drinks and celebrate new jobs - the next I was staying home thinking about creat

The Artist: Freddie Gibbs & Madlib The Track: Freestyle Shit I'm just going to say it Freddie Gibbs might be top five greatest rappers of all time. When you pair him with Madlib? It's over. Here's a cut from his most collab with the legendary producer. Signed, Ben Roethlisberger's fatter brother

Could I take Ben Roethlisberger? An investigation

Image
Let’s get one thing clear: I am a Browns fan through and through. Baker Mayfield and the team we've crafted around him this year is going to give most teams a run for their money. When Big Ben hurt himself in the first game last season, I couldn’t have been more happy knowing that we were going to wallup the Steelers when we would face them (of course Myles Garrett fucked things up for the rest of the season but whatever). However, with the big man back (and burlier than ever), a question popped into my head while I was doing research on his career. Could I take him on in an arm-wrestling contest? Granted, I would need a few months to prepare to even come close to how in shape he is. However, with my background also rooted in football as well as rugby, I honestly think I have a shot. From the very start, we're almost identical: He's 6'5" 241 pounds and I'm 6'4 320 pounds. In 2019, he sat out for an entire season with an arm i

The Artist: Conway the Machine/The Alchemist The Track: Shoot Sideways ft. Schoolboy Q Griselda is taking over the underground rap game right now but their solo careers are just as fire. Take this song for example, off of Conway's new album with The Alchemist "LULU."  I love the gritty lyrics mixed with lo-fo boom-bap. The other members, Benny the Butcher and Westside Gunn are also dope (my phone is literally fucked with all the albums they released the past two years.) After this song check them out and let me know what you think. Signed, Smitty WerbermanJenson he was number 1

Joe exotic is a gangster rap icon

Image
It was as if the rap gods heard us when we cried out for something fun to do on lockdown. They certainly heard us when they gave us Tiger King , Netflix's hit docuseries on notorious zookeeper Joe Exotic and his attempt to have someone murdered. I'm only a few episodes in and my jaw is absolutely wrecked from being stuck on the floor for so long. Tiger King is like a rollercoaster that got caught in a tornado that's about to be eaten by a tsunami. The deeper I go into this rabbit hole the more and more I'm convinced that Joe Exotic is a gangster rap icon. Think about it: A shitload of guns? Check. Importing/selling illegal products? Check Dope music about a rough life? Check Impeccable swag? Triple check SPOILERS AHEAD, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED Think about it the minute one of his employees had their arm ripped off by a tiger, what did he do? He through on an EMT jacket, handled the situation himself and then walk into a gift shop full of people and cooll

The Artist: Tabby The Track: Giannis Okay, I'm going to be honest when I first listened to this dude's first album "White Trash," I absolutely fell in love with his style. Then one day my dumbass deleted his music from my Apple Music app and I completely forgot he existed. That being said, this is the only rapper I've ever listened to that I liked so much I actively tried looking for him for years after that incident and I finally found him while on the way back from visiting my gf's family in Youngstown. I was so excited I shrieked, causing her to swerve while driving on a highway through Akron. Luckily it's Akron and every driver in Akron is shitty so no one noticed. Anyway, I almost died trying to find this guy, he's that good. Signed, Untalented Zach Galifianakis
