The Cut: Angry Blackmen is rap's next political voice

It's should be no secret that I really love genre bending music.

Rap duo Angry Blackmen pretty much sums up everything I love about this kind of music. It's potent, its raw, and well...it's angry. They recently released a project titled HEADSHOTS! and I'm pretty sure it gave me a black eye - it's a punch to the face in a good way.

The group has been around for two years and donned their name to fight the stigma of being angry and black in America - a racist trope given to African Americans fed up with how they've been treated.

A portion of the group's biography on bandcamp reads:

"Not merely a statement of being, these words lay on the table, bare bones, exactly what white America says Blacks should not be; the fake sin that racists constantly accuse Blacks of committing. Yet these words are not phrased as a threat nor with any cursing. Anger is a natural human emotion and this name just states that gently and straightforwardly. The sad irony is, any display of this natural human emotion is what white supremacists cite as to why Blacks don't deserve to be granted humanity."

Their music echoes this perfectly with industrial drums, chaotic synths and distorted samples that shake your speakers and vibrate your foundation. But the rhythm isn't the only thing that sticks out. There's something about the energy in their words, their passion for the message they have - it's outstanding.

The end result is a sucker punch to your ears and gut that will light a fire under your ass.

Here's some of their music below:
